A few times ago, I saw a discussion [fr] about the definition of an intranet. I realised that is was not so easy… an intranet has so many different sides, and there are so many kinds of intranet. Which is their common denominator ?
In “another life” (not second life !) I had to analyze how organization were working, how people used to behave, how rules were perceived and followed…
One point is obvious : the intranet is the reflection of the organization’s management. Do you want to know to what extent an organization is transverse, what’s the importance of trust in human behaviours, if individuals are taken into account, if it’s agile and reactive…you just have to check its intranet. Have a look at its policy of use, its openess, to what extent it’s personnalized and you won’t have to spend weeks to investigate the whole company.
Another conclusion will be : if you want involved people, if you want people who share and cooperate, don’t forget to have an intranet that allows a high level of personalization and autonomy to users.
